It's time to address the achievement gap.
Socioeconomic status, race/ethnicity and gender have a larger impact on education than you may think.

What is the achievement/education gap?

The achievement gap, or education gap, is the statistical difference in academic performance between white students and minority students, students from lower income households, and non-male students.

Why does this gap exist?

There are various elements that factor into the creation of the achievement gap. While internal systemic issues in education such as low rigor and weak cirriculum contribute, a primary reason for its existence is lack of opportunity, resources and representation for students of color and non-male students.

What are its effects?

This gap is a result of, and feeds into the broken cycle of racism, classism and sexism. Students are put at a disadvantage the second they walk into the classroom. Many simply have less opportuntity, therefore making it much more difficult for them to succeed.
